The Catered Affair is the sixteenth episode of Season 3 of Three's Company, and the 47th overall episode of the series. Co-written by Al Gordon and Jack Mendelsohn and directed by Dave Powers, it first aired 6 February 1979 on ABC.

Summary[]

When Chrissy's boss, J.C. Braddock asks her to look for a caterer for a party she is throwing at the office, and she recommends Jack. When she tells Jack, he is elated except for the fact he doesn't have enough money. The girls suggest he use the rent money and he can use the money that he will get paid with to pay the rent. So they agree to it.

At the party, Chrissy is being hit on by by a lecherous man. Jack tries to step in and do something as he accidentally slips and the chocolate mousse cake he made winds up on the man's suit! He then learns that the "lecherous man" is Mr. Penrose the President of the firm, also Braddock's senior partner and boss. He refuses to pay Jack and demands Chrissy be fired.

With Chrissy about to lose her job for Jack's accident, J.C. who well knows that Penrose is a creep who regularly makes advances at beautiful women behind his wife's back, she wishes, for Chrissy's sake, that his wife would catch him in the act. So, along with J.C., Jack and Janet decide to set him up.

Mr. Penrose, in promising to allow her to keep her job if she complied, then tries to make a romantic advance towards Chrissy in his backroom office. When she refused, he tries to order J.C. to fire her as she refuses, as it's then revealed the roommates and J.C. worked out the plan to get Chrissy's job back by using Chrissy to lure him by accepting his proposition only to get Mrs. Penrose to catch him red-handed!
