Hearing Is Believing is the sixth episode of Season 8 of Three's Company, and the 156th overall episode in the series. Written by Neal Marlens and directed by Dave Powers, it first aired 8 November 1983 on ABC-TV.
Jack is dating Doreen, a psychologist who specializes in sexual dysfunctions. Because people are always asking Doreen for advice, she asks Jack to keep her job a secret. The mystery is accidentally cleared up for Terri, but after overhearing Doreen talking to a patient named John on the phone, Janet draws the conclusion that Doreen is a prostitute. No one understands why Janet is reacting so negatively to Doreen, especially when Janet's father becomes extremely friendly with her. The whole matter is cleared up when Janet reads Doreen's business card as "the rapist," then realizes it says "therapist."
