Roland Wood is Janet's father. He appears in two Three's Company episodes, first in "Janet's Secret" in Season 5, then "Hearing Is Believing" in Season 8. Roland is played by veteran actor Macon McCalman, who also appeared as Mr. Penrose, a lecherous partner in the law firm at which Chrissy works as a secretary who makes an advance on her at a formal dinner party in the Season 3 episode "The Catered Affair".

In the episode "Janet's Secret" Roland and his wife Ruth (Paula Shaw) visit Janet, not knowing that one of her roommates is a guy; to that end, she, along with Jack and Cindy, attempts to conceal the truth about their living arrangement by telling him and Ruth that they are married; upon finding out the truth, this relieves him and Janet's mom, until he realizes, "Wait a minute! If they are not married... then they must be... living together!!!"
