David Ruprecht (born 14 October 1948) appeared as Phillip Dawson, a fine arts appraiser and future husband of Janet Wood who appears in the last four episodes of Three's Company. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, David's voice can be heard over subspace comm channels in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
Ruprecht is best known as the host of Lifetime Television's Supermarket Sweep, a game show that ran from 1990 through 2003. Prior to this, Ruprecht made appearances on such television shows as Benson (which featured Rene Auberjonois as a regular), Quincy, M.E. (with Robert Ito and Garry Walberg), St. Elsewhere (working with the likes of Ed Begley, Jr., Norman Lloyd, Jennifer Savidge,and Brian Tochi), Married... with Children, and Punky Brewster. He also had a recurring role on Three's Company in 1984, and from 1990 through 1992 he played Dan Ryan on the soap opera Days of Our Lives. He also had roles in the films The Incredible Shrinking Woman (1981, with Henry Gibson and John Glover, Jekyll and Hyde... Together Again (1982, with Peter Brocco and Michael Ensign), and Taking Care of Business (1990, co-starring Gates McFadden and John de Lancie).
He was later seen on NBC's Doogie Howser, M.D. with James B. Sikking, Sisters with Ashley Judd, FOX-TV's Beverly Hills, 90210 with Dan Gauthier, Family Law with Christopher McDonald and Julie Warner, ABC's The Drew Carey Show with Diedrich Bader, CBS-TV's Joan of Arcadia with John Fleck, and Cold Case with Thomas Kopache. In many of his TV appearances, he plays an interviewer or broadcaster on radio or television.
Ruprecht was born in St. Louis to a Lutheran minister and wife. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Downsize DC Foundation and is a member of the Libertarian Party. Ruprecht is a former Executive Director of the Libertarian Party Of California.
He is a long-time member of Rotary International. He is married to choreographer Patti Colombo.
He is currently a practicing member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
